2020 Award Recipient

Ampson Hagan

Ampson Hagan is the recipient of the 2020 AAA Dissertation Fellowship for Historically Underrepresented Persons in Anthropology. This award was created to encourage members of racialized minorities to complete doctoral degrees in anthropology, thereby increasing diversity in the discipline and promoting research on issues of concern among minority populations. Hagan’s proposed work represents a “radically new direction,” through his courageous ethnographic research.  His project seeks to illuminate the inner workings of anti-Blackness throughout the humanitarian field and brings fresh insights and perspectives from anthropology to the fields of international development, geography, African studies, and more.
