Dr. Carina Heckert
Dr. Carina Heckert is the recipient of the 2020 AAA Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Anthropology. This prestigious award is given to anthropology teachers that have “impacted the discipline through outstanding teaching and inspiration to their students.”
Dr. Heckert’s students applaud her constant encouragement and support throughout their college careers and beyond. Her guidance often takes a hands-on approach by assisting students with writing samples for PhD program applications and supporting them through the process. Dr. Heckert’s instruction encourages students to use critical-thinking skills and while helping them to develop an interdisciplinary perspective by using a wide array of research methods. To quote one of her students, “Dr. Heckert has always gone above and beyond the expected.”
