My Biography

What first sparked your interest in anthropology?

Reading Weston La Barre and Robert Ardrey in high school

What did you intend to do as a career after pursuing an education in anthropology?

Initially, I planned to become a professor. I evolved to become an anthropologist with a career in advertising and marketing research and a Lecturer at Columbia Business School.

How do you utilize anthropological skills in your current position?

I incorporate anthropological methods and theory in teaching market research to MBA and MS students. I apply anthropology when I write books, articles, and case studies. I support the application of anthropology to improve organizational collaboration and productivity, sustainability, public health, product innovation and marketing, and user friendly technology. I believe anthropology contributes to an appreciation of sociocultural differences that can help repair the world.

Why did you become a AAA member and how has it enhanced your professional development?

To stay current on all that anthropology is and can be in the 21st century.

What tips do you have for the next generation of student anthropologists?
