My Biography
What first sparked your interest in anthropology?
When I was a social work student, I took a course called Introduction to Anthropology, where I learned anthropologists Malinowski, Lin Yaohua, and others interpret our society in such a storytelling approach. Six years later, my PhD supervisor Prof. KU, who received his doctoral training in anthropology, brought me in.
What did you intend to do as a career after pursuing an education in anthropology?
I guess I will endeavour to become a researcher and continue to explore the world of social sciences and do exciting interdisciplinary research.
How do you utilize anthropological skills in your current position?
It was amazing. I have just finished an eight-month-long field study in rural Southeast China. This was my first time doing research independently, travelling alone to an unfamiliar place and observing the world from the perspective of an anthropologist beginner.
Why did you become a AAA member and how has it enhanced your professional development?
I would like to meet more anthropologists here, where I can learn about fascinating research from all over the world. Most importantly, I will present my research at the annual conference in 2024 and I am eager to get feedback from seniors and peers to improve my PhD thesis.
What tips do you have for the next generation of student anthropologists?
If you like it, just do it. Whether your background was once social work or law or economics, these experiences shape the way you understand the world. When you’re ready, anthropology welcomes you.
