My Biography

Charlotte Ikels (BA, Radcliffe College, 1964; MAT, Harvard Graduate School of Education, 1965; PhD, University of Hawaii, 1978) is an expert in contemporary Chinese society including urban family life, aging, health care, and bioethics. Charlotte has worked in Hong Kong studying aging and the life course, in Guangzhou, China conducting a longitudinal study of the impact of economic reform on urban family life, has studied development of the field of bioethics in China, and in Greater Boston, studied the impact of cultural factors on family support for older people. Charlotte attended her first AAA meeting in 1970.
