My Biography

What first sparked your interest in anthropology?

I discovered my passion for anthropology during a summer Introduction to Cultural Anthropology course at community college. It was then that I knew this was the field for me. Special thanks to Professor Zunner-Keating for inspiring me on this journey!

What did you intend to do as a career after pursuing an education in anthropology?

Initially, I aspired to become an archaeologist, but when COVID hit, the uncertainty led me to shift my focus to cultural anthropology. Now, I hope to continue teaching and conducting research in this field, where my interests have truly flourished.

How do you utilize anthropological skills in your current position?

As a Ph.D. student in anthropology, nearly every aspect of my life is shaped by the field. Whether it’s communicating with my students or conducting research with participants, anthropology serves as the foundation for all my work, guiding both my teaching and research practices.

Why did you become a AAA member and how has it enhanced your professional development?

I recently joined the AAA to connect with a broader anthropology community and stay updated on global developments in the field. Being a member has given me access to valuable resources, networking opportunities, and insights into current research trends.

What tips do you have for the next generation of student anthropologists?

My biggest tip is to pursue research on what you love. If you’re passionate about monkeys, study them in Japan. If Scottish folk music excites you, explore it in the Hebrides. If ancient Mediterranean civilizations fascinate you, conduct your research in Cyprus. Follow your passion, and your work will thrive!
