The AMEPC was first formed in 2002 to assist the AAA Program Chair(s) with planning and scheduling the Annual Meeting Program. In 2013, the charge of the AMEPC was modified in response to recommendations made by a Task Force commissioned in 2011 to evaluate potential modifications to the Annual Meeting and to a directive by the EB to move oversight of the AMEPC from the ACC to the AOC for a three-year trial period.
Objectives
Program the intellectual content of the Annual Meeting to achieve a high level of scholarly exchange. Ensure that the Annual Meeting is open to and welcoming of all member constituencies, showcases the general relevance of anthropology to the understanding of the human condition, and promotes anthropology’s relevance to contemporary ethical, social, cultural, and policy issues.

Responsibilities
- Plan invited presidential and plenary sessions for the Annual Meeting;
- Review all sessions and program components having intellectual content that are not sponsored by Sections;
- Support AAA Meetings staff coordination with Section program editors;
- Together with the AAA Meetings staff, schedule the Annual Meeting program; and
- Recommend improvements in the operations and substance of the Annual Meeting.
Membership and Appointment
The committee chair is the AAA Program Chair, appointed by the President. Approximately 10 additional members are appointed by the President on the advice of the AAA Program Chair to represent the sub-fields, interests, and practices of sociocultural, linguistic, biological anthropology, and archaeology, as well as other member constituencies.
Term of Office
Approximately one year, from the Annual Meeting prior to the one the EPC is responsible for programming, to the end of the Annual Meeting whose program is produced by the EPC. Some preliminary work by the AAA Program Chair and other committee members prior to the official start date (the prior Annual Meeting) may be required.

Meetings and Schedule
One face-to-face meeting at the preceding year’s annual meeting and teleconferences throughout the year as needed. Some members of the committee will meet for three days in June to complete scheduling with the Program Chair.
