My Biography

Dr. Wong (Ph.D, University of Wisconsin, Madison,1974) is a cultural anthropologist. His areas of expertise include urban anthropology, ethnic entrepreneurship, transnational migration, kinship and social networks. He has conducted fieldwork on Chinese diasporic communities in Peru, New York City, Singapore, Silicon Valley, and Japan. Dr. Wong has written several books and many journal articles on entrepreneurship and the Chinese diasporas. He was also the founder of the Center for Urban Anthropology, San Francisco State University. Dr. Wong has been a Visiting Professor of Keio University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Wong first attended the AAA annual meeting in 1972.
